Since March 2011 laKattun offers handprinted fabrics for you and your home!

Hello, I’m Eva, textile designer and printer. Under my brand name laKattun I design and print by hand on organic fabrics – mainly cotton. I use different techniques for printing: screenprinting, stamping, blockprinting with linocuts and wood blocks and more experimental methods. The results of these intricate procedures are always products with a specific handmade-charm.

I only use water-based colors with low environmental impact. The colors are permanently heat-set. I recommend hand washing, in this way you can preserve the quality and beauty of your fabric.

All fabrics that I use are 100% organic and loomed by hand or on small power looms by a women cooperative in Kerala in South India. The fabrics are certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), some are fair-traded. If you are interested, I can provide the current certificates.

The name laKattun refers to the old German word of “Kattun”, which is a simple crossweaved cotton fabric ready for printing. Earlier – in the beginning of the industrial revolution – there where a lot of “Cattun-Druckereyen” all around the country. My studio is based in Alt-Treptow in Berlin, a city which offers me a vibrant and inspiring sourrounding for being creative.
